Week 1 Devlog

My name is Darragh Lynch, I have been learning about game design for 4 years now.

During our brainstorming sessions, we went through a multitude of ideas, such as an FPS, a platformer and a fighting game. After discussing the fighting game, we came up with some concepts to make the game interesting. One of the concepts we came up with was a player vs player game where rather than the fighting being active at all times, the two players get a certain amount of time to input fight actions where then they would play at the same time as the other player, if they chose the same action, no damage would occur, if one player chose the stronger action over the other, they would deal extra damage, kind of like a multi turn rock paper scissors thing, we decided this concept would be hard to pull off in a satisfying way. We discussed some more and landed on the topic of VR which interested us both. We decided to keep the game concept simple as we have both never worked with VR in unity and create a boxing game where you rack up points by hitting a punching bag.

(Darragh) My question for this week is: Can I create a comfortable experience while playing in VR?

My name is Seán Dunne, and I have been doing game design for 2 years.

As Darragh mentioned above in our brainstorming sessions, we went through a multitude of ideas, such as an FPS, a platformer and a fighting game. Once we decided on fighting boxing and VR started becoming a recurring theme in discussion, and since neither of us had worked on VR we were most interested in that medium. Once I did some testing on some of the VR game that were out there, we then came up with how we wanted to look at our game and what we would like to make. But as Darragh said we were concerned with our lack of knowledge and decided to use VR’s latent interest and have a less is more approach with our game.

(Seán) My question for the week is: How can I make a satisfying yet comfortable experience?
